HIXNY Support for "Meaningful Use"

Eligible health care professionals can earn financial incentives for meeting the federal government’s criteria for the “meaningful use” of certified electronic health record EHR technology.

Financial incentives will be available through the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and are authorized by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009.

Achieve Meaningful Use: Join a Regional Extension Center (REC)

NYeC-REC-logo.jpgAn REC is a federally authorized and subsidized program that provides support and training services to assist doctors and other providers in the adoption and meaningful use of EHR.

The New York eHealth Collaborative (NYeC) serves as the REC in our area. HIXNY is NYeC's certified Outreach Agent for 16 counties in the Capital Region and Northern New York. We can help determine your eligibility, sign you up for the REC program, and connect you with EHR implementation experts.

Other Relevant HIXNY Offerings

Eligible providers can take advantage of two current HIXNY offerings that are relevant to CMS' proposed definition for meeting meaningful use criteria:

  • Health Information Exchange - the electronic exchange of clinical information is a needed capability for meaningful use. The HIXNY Health Information Exchange (HIE) enables authorized providers to contribute, access, and share patients' medical information with other authorized care providers in a secure, online environment.
  • HIXNY e-RX - a standalone e-prescribing solution for non-HIXNY members, or integrated with the Health Information Exchange (HIE) for current members.
  • Future Offerings - HIXNY will continue to develop offerings and services that are aligned with the CMS proposed meaningful use criteria. Future qualified offerings may include a personal health record (PHR) for patients, the ability to check insurance eligibility, routing of laboratory results, and facilitating community data standards.

HIXNY is also evaluating the provision of additional services to assist providers, including reporting quality measures to CMS, submitting data to immunization registries, providing public health reporting, and assisting providers in evaluating and implementing EHRs, among others.
