Prime CareSince mid-October, Kathy Katz, LPN for HIXNY member Prime Care Physicians, has been using HIXNY e-RX e-prescribing solution to write prescription refills.

Some days she refills as many as 400 prescriptions. Features such as preferred dosages of a medication, patient refill histories, electronic notes to the pharmacist and others help her save time, and ensure accuracy and patient safety. "Patients may not always know their entire medication list or history, and HIXNY e-RX fills in the holes," she said.

Katz offered several examples of how HIXNY e-RX has helped. One patient needed a nitroglycerin refill, which comes with comprehensive use instructions. With a click of the button, Katz sent the instructions electronically to the pharmacy for inclusion with the prescription. Another time a patient came in for a refill of Xanax, a controlled medication. Katz was able to look up in HIXNY e-RX to discover when the prescription was last filled and to prevent over-prescribing.
